innovation in hospitality management
Vinod Kumar Sharma is the Founding Principal, President, and Chief Executive Officer of JSR Hospitality. Since founding the company in 2001, he has led its strategic vision, growth initiatives, and operational excellence, transforming it into a dynamic and expanding hospitality enterprise.
As Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sharma provides overall corporate leadership, directing long-term strategy, capital allocation, acquisitions, and development initiatives. He oversees portfolio performance across all assets while establishing the operational standards and financial discipline that drive sustained profitability and brand strength.
With deep expertise in hospitality investment and asset management, Mr. Sharma plays an integral role in sourcing and executing acquisitions, structuring development projects, and cultivating key industry partnerships. His executive leadership continues to position JSR Hospitality for disciplined expansion, operational distinction, and long-term value creation.
Francis Penalba serves as Vice President of Operations at JSR Hospitality Management, where he leads the strategic and operational oversight of the company’s entire hotel portfolio, including both mid-scale and full-service properties. In his role, Francis is also actively involved in acquisitions, development initiatives, and financial strategy, balancing detailed revenue analysis and forecasting with long-term portfolio growth objectives.
Francis brings more than two decades of hospitality leadership experience. He began his career at Hilton Sunnyvale, building a strong operational foundation across limited- and full-service hotels. Over the years, he advanced through key leadership positions, including General Manager, Regional Director of Operations, and Regional Manager, developing deep expertise in multi-property oversight, team leadership, and performance optimization.
Prior to joining JSR, Francis served as Regional Manager for Hogan Hospitality Group, where he oversaw key properties throughout Northern California. His career includes experience with some of the industry’s most recognized brands, including Marriott Hotels, Hilton Hotels, and IHG, as well as independent boutique hotels in San Francisco.
Francis holds a degree in Business Administration from Penn State University and is recognized for his results-driven leadership style and operational excellence.
Paras Sharma serves as Vice President of Finance at JSR Hospitality Management, where he plays a pivotal role in driving the company’s strategic growth and financial performance. He leads acquisition efforts for JSR and its partners, identifying and evaluating new investment opportunities while overseeing due diligence and financial structuring. Paras is actively involved in the design and entitlement phases of development, collaborating closely with architects, engineers, franchise partners, and government officials to ensure successful project execution.
His expertise spans the full asset lifecycle, including renovations, conversions, acquisitions, and ongoing asset management, ensuring each property achieves operational excellence and long-term value. Paras oversees all financial operations at JSR, safeguarding owner and partner investments through disciplined financial management and strategic oversight.
Prior to joining JSR, Paras served as Development Manager at Thompson Builders Corporation, where he worked alongside the CFO to achieve financial objectives across multiple development projects.
Paras holds a degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
Shivi Sharma serves as Vice President of Business Development at JSR Hospitality Management, where he supports the firm’s acquisition and development. In this role, he is responsible for identifying growth opportunities, structuring investments, and cultivating strategic partnerships that strengthen and expand the company’s hospitality portfolio.
In addition to acquisitions and development, Shivi plays an integral role in brand strategy, property positioning, and asset performance initiatives across JSR’s platform. He also provides leadership and oversight across multiple businesses within JSR Hospitality Management, ensuring alignment between daily operations, investment goals, and the organization’s long-term vision.
Shivi is a graduate of University of California San Diego, where he developed a strong foundation in business and strategic leadership that continues to guide his work in the hospitality industry.
Kevin Shelton serves as Corporate Director of Sales and Marketing, bringing more than 31 years of hospitality experience spanning sales leadership, operations, and revenue strategy across hotel portfolios in premier gateway destinations. Recognized for his relationship-driven leadership style, Kevin has guided teams through ownership transitions, shifting market dynamics, and portfolio expansion while consistently achieving strong revenue performance.
Prior to joining JSR Hospitality Management, Kevin was Director of Sales for a three-hotel complex in Oakhurst. He previously served as National Director of Tour & Travel for OTO Development, where he grew FIT and tour revenue by more than 750 percent within two years. Kevin also dedicated 29 years to Yosemite Management Group, culminating in his role as Vice President of Operations and Marketing.
With deep ties to the Yosemite region, Kevin contributes strategic insight, operational expertise, and an unwavering commitment to hospitality excellence. He is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University.
Khatera Matthes serves as Corporate Human Resources Manager, bringing more than 15 years of progressive experience in talent acquisition, workforce planning, and HR operations across fast-paced service environments. She is recognized for developing people-focused strategies that strengthen recruitment outcomes, enhance employee engagement, and support organizational growth.
In her role, Khatera oversees corporate HR functions including full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, and performance management. She has successfully led large-scale hiring initiatives, implemented retention programs, and introduced process improvements that streamline operations and foster positive workplace cultures.
Prior to joining the JSR, Khatera served as Human Resources Manager with Lyneer Staffing, where she managed HR operations for more than 200 employees, improved hiring timelines, and maintained full compliance with employment regulations. She also spent over a decade as HR and Operations Supervisor at the National Training Center, directing recruitment, training, and policy development initiatives that increased productivity and operational effectiveness.
Khatera holds a degree from Diablo Valley College and is a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR). She brings a collaborative leadership style, strong regulatory knowledge, and a commitment to building high-performing teams that support exceptional hospitality experiences.
Gene Price serves as Corporate Director of Operations, bringing more than 20 years of progressive hospitality leadership experience overseeing complex, multi-brand and multi-property portfolios across diverse markets. His background includes both select-service and full-service hotel operations, along with destination and lifestyle-focused asset management.
Throughout his career, Gene has successfully led construction, renovation, conversion, rebranding, and operational restructuring initiatives, consistently elevating asset performance through disciplined P&L management, revenue optimization, labor efficiency, and structured accountability systems. His operational approach emphasizes measurable results while maintaining flexibility to adapt to evolving market conditions and ownership priorities.
In addition to his operational leadership, Gene has contributed to community development through service on city boards of directors, supporting local economic initiatives and strengthening industry partnerships. He is also recognized for implementing structured customer service excellence training programs that reinforce brand standards, operational consistency, and a culture centered on service-driven performance.
